Well I came across this YouTube channel the other day for the new Nintendo Wii and I've got to say it's a pretty good demonstration of effective marketing.
The only problem I see with this kind of marketing is if it's over-used then it could be very annoying for a user... but as this is one of a kind I think the marketing team at Nintendo have done a great job. Check out the link below:

I not only came across good marketing on YouTube - I also came across some very bad marketing - this is what I would call viral marketing gone bad. For some reason a law firm thought it would be a good idea to make a YouTube clip of some animated guy "rapping", if you check the comments you can tell that potential "customers" really were not that impressed. This was produced by Shipp Marketing and Media L.L.C - I wouldn't rush to get any marketing done by them anytime soon.

Some simple facts with online marketing:
DON'T
- Try and act cooler then you are - for example the animated "rapping" YouTube viral didn't do that Law firm any favours. If you're not cool - don't try and act it.
- Make fake blogs/posts etc about your product! You will get found out in the end and potential customers will NOT be happy.
- Use any tools to submit your website - manually submit your website.
- Publish any irrelevant information on your website or link to irrelevant websites - Google will punish you for this.
DO
- Find out who your target audience is and go through specific channels to get that target audience, don't just try and target "everyone" as this will backfire.
- Spend longer than five minutes planning your online strategy. Ask yourself the following questions, answering them clearly and honestly ... What are your goals? What target audience do you want to reach? What do your target audience expect?
- Use keywords that are consistent with your website's keywords.
- Publish material on YouTube, Blogger.com, Twitter and Facebook but keep it relevant.
- Have news articles/feeds that are updated on a weekly if not daily basis.
