Team Talk : Alex Young

Our new blog series is here to introduce you to the Lexel team properly. We’re a full-service digital agency so there is a whole range of different kind of work that goes on here. We’ll be finding out more about people get up to, both in and out of the office. If you’ve ever wondered what our project managers get up to day-to-day or what an analyst does on their way home then this series will have all it covered.

Alex Young is the Marketing Exec at Lexel. She is just 21 but has more than 5 years experience in this field. As an avid content writer and social media expert, her work in the office is varied but revolves around creating a strong brand image and ensuring that all websites and social media accounts perform at optimum level and are engaging to the target audience. We wanted to find out a little more about what she gets up to...

What is your official job title?

Marketing Executive

What’s your favourite type of cereal?

Chocolate Weetabix Minis

What does a typical day in the office look like for you?

Normally I get in at 8:30 and make myself a coffee, then I reply to my emails. I write blog posts throughout the day for Lexel and for our clients so each day is a bit different and I get to learn about new things all the time from researching what I’m writing about. I also manage the social media accounts for Lexel and send out email campaigns and newsletters so I’ve got lots to keep myself busy with.

Can you tell us 3 things that you like about working at Lexel?

I really enjoy the fact that I get to write a lot of interesting content for a huge range of different clients

The team are great so I look forward to coming in

I love seeing people's positive responses to the content I’ve written, it's always a good feeling when you know your hard work is being appreciated!

What is the weirdest job you ever had?

I was an au-pair for a year. I wouldn’t say that’s particularly weird but it’s the most random job I’ve had and one of the most challenging, too. 6 year olds aren’t always easy to manage but I got there in the end and really made the most out of being in Berlin. I can speak German pretty well now, too so that was a bonus.

Other than money, what inspires you?

Helping people grow business that they’re proud of.

What’s your secret talent that no-one knows about?

I can lick my elbow.

What do you like to get up to after work?

I always walk to and from work so when I finish, I take a nice, long, relaxing walk. I either go home or I meet my friends / boyfriend for a drink. I’m passionate about cooking so will nearly always cook something yummy but I do also love going for a nice meal out so sometimes I’ll treat myself.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into your profession?

I’d say write, write, write. Get experience working for free for different companies, even if it’s just for a week. That way you can develop your skills and you’ll be much more attractive to employers. Also start your own blog and write about whatever interests you. I’d also suggest keeping up to date with social media trends and enroll yourself onto Google Analytics Academy, which is totally free and really useful.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learnt in the last year?

Positivity attracts positivity and negativity spreads.
